public lessons & events

Our public group mahjong lessons make learning the game approachable, social, and fun. Perfect for those looking to learn in a supportive environment, these sessions cover the fundamentals (Mahj 101), introduce strategy (Mahj 102), or provide guided play without formal instruction to help you practice and build confidence at the table. For players who already know the basics, we also offer Open Play events—relaxed, social gatherings focused on independent play and connecting with other mahjong enthusiasts. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with instructors circulating to answer questions and keep the tiles moving. The focus isn’t on perfection—it’s on learning the game, sharing a few laughs, and enjoying time around the table.

private lessons & events

Private lessons offer a more intimate way to learn the game—tiles, hands, strategy, and all. Whether you’re starting from scratch or brushing up before your next game night, these sessions are tailored to your group and designed to feel relaxed and social. Ask questions, play real hands, and learn together in a setting that makes mahjong feel approachable, fun, and easy to return to. For groups that already know the basics, we can also host private Open Play events—perfect for gathering friends, coworkers, or community groups for a relaxed mahjong experience without formal instruction.

First time at the table? Pull up a seat. Mahj 101 is a fun, low-pressure intro to the game—perfect for beginners who want to learn without the overwhelm. We’ll break down the tiles, the flow, and the basics in a way that actually sticks, with plenty of time to play, chat, and get comfortable at the table. No experience necessary, just good energy. Come for the lesson, stay for the vibes.

mahj 102

Already know the basics? Mahj 102 is designed for players who are ready to build confidence and flow at the table. We’ll sharpen gameplay, break down strategy, and practice reading hands—all in a relaxed, social setting that leaves plenty of room for conversation and play. Expect guided rounds, helpful tips, and lots of real-game experience. Less guessing, more confidence, better hands.

guided play

This one’s all about playing. Guided Play is a relaxed, drop-in style session for players who know the basics and want real table time without formal instruction. A host will be there to keep the game moving, answer quick questions, and gently guide the flow—so you can focus on playing, chatting, and getting comfortable with the rhythm of the game. No lesson, no pressure, just good hands, good company, and time well spent at the table.

open play

Our Open Play mahjong events are relaxed, social gatherings for players who already understand the basics of American mahjong and are ready to play independently. These sessions are designed to give players dedicated table time to enjoy the game, build confidence, and connect with other mahjong enthusiasts in a welcoming environment.

Guests are seated with fellow players and rotate naturally through games as the tiles keep moving. Unlike our Guided Play sessions, Open Play is not instructional and does not include step-by-step coaching. However, a Midnight Mahj host will be present to help with table flow and occasional quick rule clarifications if needed.
