Starting with events held in November 2026, we’re making private event booking simpler and more streamlined.
For private events of up to 16 guests
Available private event dates will be released in individual listings with specific dates, times, and maximum guest capacities. Once a listing is posted, you can select the option that works for your group and book your private event directly online.
A $100 nonrefundable deposit is required at checkout to secure your selected date and time.
Please choose your listing carefully: Each available option will have a maximum guest capacity of either 8 or 16 guests. You must select a listing that accommodates the maximum number of guests you expect to attend, even if your final guest count may be lower.
Planning a group of more than 16?
Private events for 17+ guests require additional staffing and advance planning and are not available for direct online booking. These events must be arranged in advance and booked by the last day of the second calendar month before the event month (see deadline table using button below).
For example, a private event for December 18 must be booked by October 31.

Each listing will indicate the maximum guest capacity for that date and time—either up to 8 or up to 16 guests. Simply select an available date and time that accommodates the maximum number of guests you expect to attend and complete checkout. A $100 nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your date and time.
Private events for more than 16 guests: Larger private events require additional staffing and advance planning and must be arranged through our Host an Event inquiry process. These events must be booked by the last day of the second calendar month before the month in which the event will take place. A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required once the event has been confirmed.
Please note that submitting an inquiry for a larger private event does not guarantee that the event can be booked. All private events are subject to scheduling limitations and instructor availability and are not confirmed until Midnight Mahj has reviewed and confirmed the event.

**For Mahj 101 or Guided Play Lessons: Midnight Mahj reserves the right to arrange tables at its discretion. In the event that total tickets sold for Mahj 101 or Guided Play tables are not an even multiple of four, some guests may be seated two per playing position, rotated between hands, or placed at tables with fewer than four players in order to best accommodate attendance and create an enjoyable experience for all attendees. In these instances, the integrity, pacing, and quality of gameplay and instruction will remain a top priority and will not be compromised.
**For Open Play Events: Open Play tables are ideally arranged in groups of four players, however, in the event that Open Play tickets are not sold in even multiples of four, tables may be organized with fewer than four players in order to best accommodate attendance. In these instances, gameplay should proceed according to the standard rules and variations associated with 2- or 3-player American mahjong.
**Please note that Midnight Mahj is not responsible for attendee tardiness, early departures, or no-shows that may impact table counts or player arrangements during the event. To best accommodate attendance and maintain gameplay flow, Midnight Mahj reserves the right to rearrange tables or adjust seating assignments at any time throughout the event as needed.description

Private lessons/events are fully customizable and can be booked to meet your specific needs. For a group of beginners, private lessons typically take 2-2.5 hours with options to extend play time.

Events located more than 10 miles from 19803 incur a $1.00 per mile travel fee, calculated based on the round-trip distance.
Events outside the 10-mile radius may not be able to be accommodated depending on location, date, timing, and instructor availability.
For private events booked through an available online listing, you may still select and pay for an available date and time. If the event location is outside the 10-mile radius, Midnight Mahj will review the location after booking and confirm whether we are able to accommodate the event.
If Midnight Mahj is unable to accommodate the event because of the location or other scheduling considerations, the applicable deposit will be refunded.

Food and drink aren’t included in private event packages, but we’ll collaborate with you and recommend options that will elevate your event above the rest.

Each available private event date and time will have a maximum guest capacity of either 8 or 16 guests, based on Midnight Mahj instructor availability and the staffing required for that event.
When booking, you must select a date and time that accommodates the maximum number of guests you expect to attend.
For example, if you expect your group could include 12 guests, you must select a listing with a maximum capacity of 16 guests. You may not book an option capped at 8 guests and later increase your group to 12.
Your final guest count may be lower than the capacity of the listing, subject to the applicable minimum guest count. However, we cannot guarantee that additional instructors will be available if you need to increase your guest count beyond the capacity of the option you originally selected.

Yes! Midnight Mahj provides mahjong card tables, chairs, and coordinating drink tables as part of your private event setup, ensuring an elevated and comfortable experience for your guests. We handle the full table styling, including tiles, racks, and accessories, so everything is ready upon arrival. If your venue already has suitable tables and seating, we’re happy to work with what’s available. We’ll coordinate all setup details with you in advance to ensure a seamless and beautifully presented event.

Private event pricing is based on your total guest count:
4–8 guests: $75 per person
9–16 guests: $65 per person
17+ guests: $55 per person
Private events are fully customizable, and additional services or add-ons may be available upon request and quoted separately.
Your applicable deposit is applied toward your final event balance.

Mahjong is best played in multiples of 4 (although there are ways we can work around this). For private lessons/events in Wilmington, DE, a minimum of 4 guests is required. For events held outside of Wilmington, DE, a minimum of 8 guests is required.

No. Submitting an inquiry allows us to review your requested event details and availability, but it does not guarantee that we will be able to book your event.
Private events are subject to scheduling limitations, instructor availability, event size, location, and other logistical considerations. Your event is not considered confirmed until Midnight Mahj has reviewed the request and confirmed that we are able to accommodate it.
For larger private events of more than 16 guests, we recommend providing multiple potential dates whenever possible to help us identify the best available option.

Each available slot reflects our instructor availability and the maximum group size we can accommodate for that date/time. Once a slot has been booked, it will no longer be available for selection. Sold Out means the date/time is no longer available for online booking.

Private events are staffed according to your guest count. When selecting your date/time option, please make sure the maximum number of guests you expect to attend does not exceed the maximum capacity listed for that option.
For example, if you expect 12 guests, you must select a date/time option that accommodates up to 16 guests. A date/time listed as up to 8 guests cannot be used for a 12-person event.
Your final guest count may be adjusted after booking, but your selected date/time must be able to accommodate your maximum anticipated guest count. We cannot guarantee that additional instructors will be available to accommodate an increase in guest count after booking.
If your preferred date or time is not currently available for the capacity you need, please sign up for the waitlist email distribution list on the listing for your preferred date/time. We’ll email you if an opening becomes available.
**The maximum capacity is not a required headcount. You do not need to fill every available seat. For example, you may book a 16-guest option for a group of 10. However, you may not book an 8-guest option for a group that may grow to 12. Your final guest count may be lower than the maximum capacity you selected, subject to the applicable minimum guest count.

Private events can be customized to fit your group, with options for Mahj 101, Guided Play, and Open Play depending on your group's experience and desired format.
Instructor & Group Size
Our private lessons are staffed according to guest count and event type to ensure your group receives the appropriate level of instruction, support, and attention. Available date/time options are based on Midnight Mahj instructor availability and reflect the maximum number of guests we can accommodate for that particular slot.
When booking, please select a date/time option that accommodates the maximum number of guests you anticipate attending. In the booking form, you will be asked to provide your maximum anticipated guest count—the largest number of guests you expect may attend, even if you anticipate that your final headcount may be lower.
Why are capacities different? Each date/time option reflects the number of instructors Midnight Mahj has available for that particular date and the maximum group size we can appropriately staff.
Minimum Event Counts
Mahjong is traditionally played in groups of four, and we structure our private events accordingly. While we can accommodate some group sizes that are not multiples of four (minimum guest counts apply)
Events in Wilmington, DE: Minimum of 4 guests
Events outside of Wilmington, DE: Minimum of 8 guests
If your final guest count falls below the applicable minimum, your final invoice will be calculated based on the required minimum guest count rather than the number of guests attending.
For example, if you book an event outside of Wilmington for 8 guests but only 6 guests attend, the event will still be billed at the 8-guest minimum.
Travel & Location
Private event pricing applies to events located within a 10-mile radius of 19803 (Wilmington, DE). Events located more than 10 miles from 19803 will incur a $1.00 per mile travel fee, calculated based on the round-trip distance from 19803 to the event location. Please note that events outside of the 10-mile radius may not be able to be accommodated, depending on location, date, timing, and instructor availability.
If you book an available date/time and your event location is outside the 10-mile radius, you may still submit the required $100 deposit to secure the requested date/time while Midnight Mahj reviews the location. The booking remains subject to Midnight Mahj confirming that the event can be accommodated at that location.
If Midnight Mahj is able to accommodate the event, we will confirm the booking and the applicable travel fee will be added to your event balance.
If Midnight Mahj is unable to accommodate the event due to the location or other scheduling considerations, your $100 deposit will be refunded.
Travel fees are separate from the private event pricing listed below.
How Booking Works
1. Select your date, time, and appropriate capacity.
Choose from the November private event slots currently available. Be sure to select an option that accommodates your maximum anticipated guest count. Available slots are based on Midnight Mahj instructor availability and event capacity. Fill out the form regarding preliminary event details at checkout.
2. Pay the $100 nonrefundable deposit.
Your $100 nonrefundable deposit is required at checkout and secures your selected date and time on the Midnight Mahj calendar. Your reservation is not confirmed and the date/time is not held until the deposit has been successfully paid.
The deposit will be applied toward your final event balance.
For events located outside the 10-mile radius of 19803, the deposit remains subject to location confirmation as outlined in the Travel & Location section below.
3. Tell us about your event.
After booking, we’ll collect the details we need to customize your experience, including your estimated guest count, mahjong experience level, event type, preferred play format, event location, and any special requests.
4. Finalize your guest count and event details.
Your final event pricing will be based on your confirmed guest count and selected services. Your final guest count cannot exceed the maximum capacity associated with the date/time you selected unless Midnight Mahj is able to confirm additional instructor availability. Final guest count is due 7 days prior to event date.
Additional event details, travel fees, and any applicable add-ons will be finalized with Midnight Mahj.
5. Complete your remaining payments.
Your remaining balance will be invoiced according to the payment schedule below.
By completing your booking, you acknowledge and agree to the Midnight Mahj Events & Lessons Booking Agreement, including our policies regarding deposits, guest counts, cancellations, payment deadlines, and event requirements.
Private Event Pricing
Our private event pricing is based on your total guest count. Final event pricing is based on your confirmed guest count and selected services. Your $100 deposit is applied toward your final event balance.
4–8 guests: $75 per person
9–16 guests: $65 per person

Private Event Payment Schedule
$100 nonrefundable deposit: Due at the time of booking to secure your selected date and time.
30% payment: Due by invoice no later than 21 days prior to the event or lesson date. If the booking is made within 21 days of the event, this payment is due at the time of booking. (The $100 deposit is separate from the 30% payment and is applied toward your final event balance.)
Final attendee count: Changes to your total headcount must be communicated to Midnight Mahj no later than 7 days prior to the event date. Your final attendee count will be used to determine the final event balance.
Remaining balance: Due by invoice 7 days prior to the event or lesson date.
Important Booking Information
The $100 deposit is nonrefundable, except when Midnight Mahj determines that an event located outside the 10-mile service radius cannot be accommodated, as outlined above.
Your selected date and time are not held until the deposit has been paid.
Available slots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Events are staffed according to guest count. Please only select a date/time option that accommodates the maximum number of guests you expect to attend.
The final guest count cannot exceed the maximum capacity associated with your selected date/time unless Midnight Mahj confirms additional instructor availability in advance.
