Sizes of group lessons vary by location and usually range anywhere from 8-28 people. Tables are arranged in groups of 4.

Each group lesson is typically led by 2-4 instructors/assistants depending on class size.

Absolutely. Midnight Mahj events are intentionally designed to feel welcoming, polished, and thoughtfully curated—never intimidating. Each Social Club event description will clearly note the minimum experience level expected, so you can register with confidence knowing the room will feel aligned with your comfort and skill level. We also organize tables based on the mahjong experience level of each attendee, so you’ll always be seated with players in a similar stage of their mahj journey.

• Mahj 101 is perfect for true beginners or anyone who wants to revisit the fundamentals in a supportive, confidence-building setting.

• Mahj 102 is designed to fine-tune strategy, sharpen gameplay, and deepen understanding.

• Guided Play is ideal for those who have previously attended our Mahj 101 and/or Mahj 102 lessons and are ready to build fluency with hands-on coaching.

Not at all. In fact, many of our guests attend solo—and that’s exactly what Midnight Mahj Social Club was designed for. Our events are intentionally curated to feel warm, welcoming, and effortlessly social from the moment you arrive.

We thoughtfully organize tables based on each attendee’s mahjong experience level, so you’ll be seated with players at a similar stage in their mahj journey.

Coming solo often means leaving with new mahj partners, new group chats, and new plans on the calendar. There is always a seat waiting for you.

**For Mahj 101 or Guided Play Lessons: Midnight Mahj reserves the right to arrange tables at its discretion. In the event that total tickets sold for Mahj 101 or Guided Play tables are not an even multiple of four, some guests may be seated two per playing position, rotated between hands, or placed at tables with fewer than four players in order to best accommodate attendance and create an enjoyable experience for all attendees. In these instances, the integrity, pacing, and quality of gameplay and instruction will remain a top priority and will not be compromised.

**For Open Play Events: Open Play tables are ideally arranged in groups of four players, however, in the event that Open Play tickets are not sold in even multiples of four, tables may be organized with fewer than four players in order to best accommodate attendance. In these instances, gameplay should proceed according to the standard rules and variations associated with 2- or 3-player American mahjong.

**Please note that Midnight Mahj is not responsible for attendee tardiness, early departures, or no-shows that may impact table counts or player arrangements during the event. To best accommodate attendance and maintain gameplay flow, Midnight Mahj reserves the right to rearrange tables or adjust seating assignments at any time throughout the event as needed.description

Private events for more than 16 guests require additional staffing and advance planning and are handled separately from our standard online private event listings.

Large private events must be booked by the last day of the second calendar month before the month in which the event will take place.

For example:

• December 2026 event → book by October 31, 2026

• January 2027 event → book by November 30, 2026

• February 2027 event → book by December 31, 2026

A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required once the event has been confirmed.

Because larger events require coordination of multiple instructors and schedules, submitting an inquiry does not guarantee availability or booking. All large private events are subject to scheduling limitations and instructor availability.

Private lessons/events are fully customizable and can be booked to meet your specific needs. For a group of beginners, private lessons typically take 2-2.5 hours with options to extend play time.

Events located more than 10 miles from 19803 incur a $1.00 per mile travel fee, calculated based on the round-trip distance.

Events outside the 10-mile radius may not be able to be accommodated depending on location, date, timing, and instructor availability.

For private events booked through an available online listing, you may still select and pay for an available date and time. If the event location is outside the 10-mile radius, Midnight Mahj will review the location after booking and confirm whether we are able to accommodate the event.

If Midnight Mahj is unable to accommodate the event because of the location or other scheduling considerations, the applicable deposit will be refunded.

Each available private event date and time will have a maximum guest capacity of either 8 or 16 guests, based on Midnight Mahj instructor availability and the staffing required for that event.

When booking, you must select a date and time that accommodates the maximum number of guests you expect to attend.

For example, if you expect your group could include 12 guests, you must select a listing with a maximum capacity of 16 guests. You may not book an option capped at 8 guests and later increase your group to 12.

Your final guest count may be lower than the capacity of the listing, subject to the applicable minimum guest count. However, we cannot guarantee that additional instructors will be available if you need to increase your guest count beyond the capacity of the option you originally selected.

Yes! Midnight Mahj provides mahjong card tables, chairs, and coordinating drink tables as part of your private event setup, ensuring an elevated and comfortable experience for your guests. We handle the full table styling, including tiles, racks, and accessories, so everything is ready upon arrival. If your venue already has suitable tables and seating, we’re happy to work with what’s available. We’ll coordinate all setup details with you in advance to ensure a seamless and beautifully presented event.

Private event pricing is based on your total guest count:

• 4–8 guests: $75 per person

• 9–16 guests: $65 per person

• 17+ guests: $55 per person

Private events are fully customizable, and additional services or add-ons may be available upon request and quoted separately.

Your applicable deposit is applied toward your final event balance.

Corporate Events
Corporate pricing is customizable and available upon inquiry.

Mahjong is best played in multiples of 4 (although there are ways we can work around this). For private lessons/events in Wilmington, DE, a minimum of 4 guests is required. For events held outside of Wilmington, DE, a minimum of 8 guests is required.

The required deposit depends on the size of your event:

• Private events for up to 16 guests: $100 nonrefundable deposit, paid at the time of online booking.

• Private events for more than 16 guests: $200 nonrefundable deposit, paid once the event has been confirmed through the inquiry process.

The deposit is applied toward your final event balance.

For online private event listings, your date and time are not secured until the $100 deposit has been paid.

For larger private events, submitting an inquiry does not hold or guarantee a date. The event must first be reviewed and confirmed by Midnight Mahj before the $200 deposit is collected.
